With the end of the year coming so soon, I can't help but look back at the body of work I've created in the last 12 months or even a retrospective of my time at ACAD. Four years where I have felt development, but lacked my own distinctive voice due to being in awe of artists, peers and contemporaries alike, that I admire and in the process losing that little something that stirs my insides; a source from which my perspective can be shown. Truly it seems like i'm trying to stand on the shoulders of giants it seems. Frankly, I've never felt the need for change like I have right now, in environment and in state of mind. We'll see if the new year gives me a glimmer of a slight change in direction. Cheers.

Theatre poster assignment. originally intended to illustrate the theme of revenge with the saying, "an eye for an eye", but I decided that Titus' head alone would be more striking. Final image was painted with acrylic and pencil crayon on panel. The graphic shapes were originally printed with linocut and then cleaned up in photoshop. I thought the texture from the printing would've worked out better, but it wasn't as cohesive as I wanted when I put the image together. Lesson learned.

Here's some initial drawings for a symbolism assignment based on the Chinese dragon and phoenix in relation to a marriage in complete and surreal disarray. Finished drawing and final paint to come once i've resolved a few issues with the sketch.

So with this piece I wanted to have the juxtaposition of mood against the calm headed portrayal of Ness by showing Capone living the highlife, unconcerned with the law enforcement always on his tail. Bit of symbolism going on here that shouldn't be too hard to figure out. The background treatment ended up working to my favor in the fact that I think that the bubbles and overall hue of the image is subtly reminiscent of booze, more specifically a reference to bootlegged beer. I think the composition could have been tweaked, but i'm pretty satisfied with the result.

Portrait/interpretation of Eliot Ness for a protagonist/antagonist character project. Capone will be due shortly. Tried to portray Ness in more of a focused mood with his mind on his goal (based on friends' suggestions), rather than having him with guns blazing or in a more romanticized version.

Initial thumbs and final drawing for an assignment based on an article on the problem of tattoo artists transferring diseases via illegal unsafe tattooing methods. The assignment called for a visual metaphor to elaborate on a character of the article. Bit of a James Jean homage and study into his methods and forms. Been a valuable experience thus far.
