Qi? Ki? Chakra? Uhhhhh...

Gong show of an assignment. Glad it's done.

Some information illustration that turned out to be more design than anything else. Who knows when i'll get the free time to do one that ties these two together. Maybe not all. On to better things instead.

stretching my fingers

Some pages that made it out alive of 'the sketchbook I never want to show anyone'. Playing around with ink has been pretty enjoyable, though highly frustrating at points. I'm nowhere near being as comfortable with ink as I am with pencil, which is so forgiving in its nature. I'm reminded why I have a great deal of respect for those who choose and control such a temperamental medium to work with on a regular basis.

Anyways, take this post as creative vomit. I seem to draw unsavory things when I have no concepts in mind. What that means I don't know. I think there will be more to come.

Western Heracles

Some more studies from the same assignment as my Momotaro designs. These are characters based loosely (I stress loosely) on Heracles and his 12 labors. I'll have more of an explanation later.

My Heracles design could use a bit more fleshing out and a bit more exaggeration. He's meek at the moment, which is what I wanted, but not as awkward as I think he should be. Oh and yes I realize that his boots aren't "true" cowboy boots in terms of shape. I'll have to fix that in a future rendition.

Edit: I can't believe that I didn't notice way earlier in my colouring process that the boy has a colour scheme and shirt very similar to a particular cowboy from Toy Story. Well this one goes to the trash.

Motivation

I came across a wonderful little tidbit of reading today about advice for fledgling illustrators such as myself. A self-destructive outlook on one's own art seems like a common thing among young artists, especially when exposed to the abundance of talent out there.

Here's the link.

After reading this i may be persuaded to show a little more of my sketches that normally never see the light of a computer screen.

peaches and such

Some designs for characters from the story of Momotaro. Probably will be more on the way since this is another school assignment.
